Best places to visit in the Faroe Islands
- Múlafossur Waterfall: This waterfall drops roughly 200 feet from the top of a cliff right into the ocean. It sits on Vágar island and there is a tunnel taking you there that makes it easy to access this remote location by car. This is a great location to get a local guide to give you a tour of the area.
- Trælanípa: This is a large clear blue lake that sits at the top of cliffs above the ocean. Because the cliffs slope up quite dramatically from the lake it gives visitors an optical illusion that the lake is far above the ocean level. It’s also quite close to the airport on the Faroe Islands, making it convenient to get to.
- Drangarnir: This is one of the most iconic landmarks in the Faroe Islands. There are quite a few boat tours that will take you out to this sea arch. If the weather is good, you can take a boat through the arch for a once-in-a-lifetime view of this amazing geological formation.
Summer in the Faroe Islands
Even in the middle of the summer, temperatures on the islands are quite mild and are going to be much more like the fall that you would find in other parts of the Northern Hemisphere. One of the pluses of visiting in the summer is that the sun will barely ever set, meaning you will have plenty of great daylight hours to explore. This is also when the G! Festival takes place, which is a music festival you will not want to miss.

Good to know when renting in Faroe Islands
There are 2 sub-sea tunnels between islands that have tolls. You will need to pay the toll at a gas station within 3 days of using a tunnel.
You will need to be at least 20 years old with a license held for at least 2 years to rent with SIXT in the Faroe Islands. A higher minimum age may apply for some car categories.
You will drive on the right-hand side of the road, and seat belts are required for everyone in a vehicle. You also need to have your headlights on at all times. The speed limit is between 50 and 80 km/h, and you should adjust your speed on roads with only one lane.
