There are a wealth of opportunities for outdoor adventure and wildlife spotting in Umeå and the surrounding regions. One activity unique to the Umeå region is a visit to The Elk House, where you can walk right up to tame elks as well as learn more about them in the museum. The Elk House is located in Bjurholm, approximately an hour drive away. Another option is to explore the island of Norrbyskär, where a sawmill was in operation in the 19th century. Today there is a museum explaining the beautiful island's history and culture, as well as an art gallery, restaurants, and shops. To take the ferry to the island, drive to the Norrbyn terminal, 25 miles south of Umea. Umeå also has options for evening entertainment, from dancing at Västerbottens museum or a traditional Swedish dinner at TC Theatre café Bar & Restaurant.
