Traffic Information

Getting around with a car rental in Scottsdale is fairly straightforward, although it is always a good idea to have a GPS device in an unfamiliar place. The city has roughly four areas: South Scottsdale, Old Town (or Downtown), Central Scottsdale (also known as the Shea Corridor), and North Scottsdale. Driving from the south part of the city to the northern part is about 10 miles and will take about 20 minutes. In Old Town, where many museums, shopping options and art galleries are, there are plenty of free parking lots and parking garages. Be sure to observe signs on the streets and in parking lots and garages about time or parking duration restrictions.

While having a car is crucial in getting around the city, it is also worth noting that there are four free trolleys circulating on different routes if you would like to leave your car parked in one place.

Sixt Tips

What is now Scottsdale was originally established as a town whose residents planted groves of citrus trees in the late 1800s. Later, it was home to a boom from cotton farming. In the early 1900s spa resorts were built and artists and architects came to the city, which led to its current art scene and notable architectural structures. It also prospered due to its proximity to the Arizona capitol city. The center of Phoenix is less than 10 miles away.

Visitors to Scottsdale can enjoy the vibrant art scene at one of many galleries in the Old Town district. It is easy to drive or walk around the center of the city for shopping. Also take note of the many buildings dating back to the 1920s and the olive trees. There are also plenty of opportunities for enjoying the desert landscape. If golf is your hobby, the mild climate all year means there are world-class courses here including TPC Scottsdale. You can also stay at the Phoenician, a renowned spa located next to Camelback Mountain in northwest Scottsdale.
